LIGATURE LABORATORIES

As a network of artists, designers and theorists we play on the borders and surfaces of culture. We navigate through our various routines with a voracious appetite to question, accumulate and explore. LIGATURE LABORATORIES is where return in order to then release, interrupt, provoke and and hopefully inspire.

Infix Infix Infix Infix Infix Infix

Infix attempts to instill a two foot sense of reprieve into Manhattan's Lower East Side. Deconstructing the layers of the urban fabric using cleaning, cover-up and light graffiti, Infix reveals the area's bygone visage by systematically digging down to uncover the origins of either twenty minutes ago or twenty years ago. In slicing through the city's skin, we aim to offer a new keyhole to gaze through.

Call to action!
In it's first itiration, Infix uses reverse graffiti by taking away the advertisements that cloud our scenery and providing a window to the layers underneath. What we need are soldiers to storm the city and insert breaks and windows amidst the East Village and beyond. The show 'opens' in the beginning of September when the largest appearances need to be made, with some follow-ups throughout the month and beyond as they get covered up. And we would love nothing more than for you, dear visitor, to get involved.

Above are a sample images of what some of the pauses have looked like, while below is a template for taking out more. The template is three tabloid pages in size, for a final comma of 28" in height. They don't take very long to do, so grab a friend and an exacto, and jump into the fray. Bring along a digital camera and snap a photo of each finished pause. Email to infix at ligature laboratories dot com to be included in the catalog.
